AKIbeetles produced flake soil. Made in very small 19 liter batches in an electric composting machine. This flake is made with an oak blend base with additives including wheat bran, trehalose, and glutamic acid that has consistently produced large beetles.
The process of making flake soil in an electric composter has proven to be very successful for making well fermented flake, even with a single stage of fermentation. Compared to traditional flake methods of using totes and hand mixing during warmer months, the machine allows year round flake production with extremely consistent results.
Due to the extremely small production runs, this flake soil is not cheap when compared to other makers of flake soil. That being said, the quality of the flake is extremely high and compares very favorably to others on the market.
Comes in a gallon bag or in ultra clear PET plastic deli containers perfect for your beetle larvae. Just air out flake, punch holes in lid with a thumbtack (8-12 holes should suffice) and add larvae. (With a small amount of the flake soil they're already in.)
8 oz. is good for fresh L1 to early L2 for most species. 16 oz. for L2 (or even L3-pupation for small beetle species.) 32 oz. for L3 for many species. Keep in mind that larger beetle species will require larger containers.
